Q: What was the reason for using the band name "Akuma"?

A: We took the name from a band that we like, we thought it was a cool name, easy to learn and with a lot of power.

Q: How many shows have you played, and which one has been your favorite thus far?

A: We don't remember exactly how many shows have we played, we enjoy every show, we try to give more than the 100% or ourselves, and there have been a lot of really good gigs but the last one at NRMAL Fest in Monterrey was astounding.

Q: What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

A: Most of our music is instrumental we have very few songs with lyrics but we always have themes about nature, life balance, chaos and human strength.

Q: What song do you enjoy playing live the most?

A: We enjoy all of our songs, but we always try to do a good setlist with the most organic sequence for the songs we'll play in a show. There are songs that we don't play anymore but it is because we're always writing new material and it is a reflection of the musical present of the band at that moment.

Q: What artists have influenced your band and its music?

A: There are a lot influence from many genres of music not only rockn'roll, we enjoy listening different types of music, we're always trying to find new sound on our music culture. But there are certain artists that mark an influence on each of us and as a band, artists from HxC, Metal, Avant-Garde, Doom, Sludge, Black Metal, Noise.

Q: If a fan wants to get a tattoo with one line from your lyrics, which line should he/she take?

A: This is maybe the weirdest question we've ever answered as a band, tattoos are a very personal stuff and wouldn't like to tell "This is what you have to choose..." we think that if someone gets a tattoo based on Akûma's influence, it would be awesome but that's something we don't want to have an influence on.

Q: If you would have the possibily to open one big festival, what festival would it be?

A: There are a lot of festival we would like to attend even as regular public! If we would get to play any of these festivals, man, it would be a fantasy for us! We would like to play at a Roadburn festival, Hellfest, All Tomorrows Parties, SXSW, Chaos in Tejas and there's a very cool mexican fest called Festival Aural, we would love to have the chance to play there!

Q: What is the main source of inspiration when writting new music?

A: We don't depend on one thing only for inspiration, we think that inspiration is a collective thing, someone creates a riff or a theme and we all work together, we talk a lot about how does it feels but sometimes it just comes, we're all playing together and you feel it. We're always trying to push ourselves to have a better sound and better songs, we think that if people says that we are a good band then we can be better

Q: What are your plans for this year exactly?

A: We're writing a new record and we're looking to record it before summer and we want to play a bunch of shows and do the promotion for the album, we want to tour Mexico and if we can play some dates outside our country it would be just fine.

Q: Do you have any shout outs to give the readers?

A: Well it's great for us to have the chance to get some exposure outside our country and people would check the mexican stoner/sludge/hxc/punk/post-metal/experimental stuff, we have great bands in Mexico City, Guadalajara and the north of the country. You should check us all out and give a listen to our material, we're working hard to have the chance to play at your country some day. Thank you for reading!
