1.What was the reason for using the band name "Sapiency"?
After we decided to form a new Metal project, there was another step to manage before we could finally get started: Find a catchy name. That was more difficult than we thought and after a lot of beers we had round about 30 000 different names, so we had to think over which of those meanings might fit best to us.
Finally we came to the name “Sapiency” to highlight the irony within.

Sapiency means “wise” or “cunning” in an ironic sense.
Previously, we have all played in various bands and we know each other for many years. Our purpose was to create something new and bundle all our experiences we have gained in the previous years to give full power without compromises.
Well ... although if you have a lot of experience and payed a lot of dues, it does not keep you from to making some mistakes again ... maybe you could say that it is something like a memorial to ourselves to look more closely so as not to commit some mistakes again.
Added to this was that we wanted to have a concise word that is easy to remember.
And finally, it sounds just awesome :O)

2. What is the backstory of the band? How did it get formed?

In the past years our two guitar players have been playing in various bands together. We got to know Lars Bittner and his impressive talent while playing in another project, called “Force Trankill”. After that we decided to keep this couple as the core of a new band. After some line-up changes we finally found some professional musicians and good friends like Sebastian Fix as our bass-player or Kai Voss-Fels, our drummer. In the year 2012 we have been lucky to welcome Krsto Balic as our new frontman. Hopefully this will be the last line-up changes and we can continue to keep up the good work and rock the stage together.

3. You recently released a new album called "Tomorrow". Can you tell the readers something about the concept of the album?

Well, our debut album "Fate's End" marked the end of an era, the end of our first chapter as a band. The new album "Tomorrow" goes beyond that point of change and is about our next step forward. It describes a new beginning. As you might probably know we had some changes in our line-up and therefore we gathered a whole lot more experience than in SAPIENCY’s early beginnings.  There's so much you can read in "Tomorrow" like the opportunity to make things better than yesterday and even about how hope and trust can help to achieve this goal. So this title describes our progression as a band and as musicians at its best.

4. What message do you want to send with the new songs?

Every song got its own subject even if a few of the tracks are not having any relation to the album title "tomorrow" itself. On the one hand songs like "Breaking Chains", "Free Within" (watch youtube to see our first video!), "Weight Of The World" and "Tomorrow" for example are about freedom, personal fulfillment and hope: These songs are indeed having a strong connection to the album title. But on the other hand songs like "Fight On", "Torn Apart" or "Turn The Tide" are dealing with topics around things happened in the past where the hope of tomorrow can't help anyway. So, we've got a lot to say and to spread a lot of messages.

5. What are the main influences when writing new music?

At first, all the positive and negative experiences and impressions that have been made in the course of our lifes, the reasons why you see and comprehend things from a certain perspective and which has molded your character into the person that you are.
These are the reasons why you have found music as a choice for your own expression and this always reflected in every song in any way again.
Nevertheless, it affects our actions and sensations.
All the things that concern us everyday and encourage us to think, that are the primary source of inspiration, even if these are often not conscious processes that occur there.

6. What was your biggest "band-moment" ?

Our shows at the "70.000 Tons Of Metal" was definitely one of them! It was so unreal in someway, you know?! To play among all the other famous bands we used to hear in our childhood, we grew up with and to do a caribbean cruise with them. It was absolutely amazing and we hope to get back on the ship. One more of our biggest moments was our show at the Metalfest on the Loreley. It's a location with a huge tradition where a lot of bands played their shows since the 70's I think. It was blast to open that great festival, on one of the best and most impressing stages and in front of so many metal heads! Moments we will definitely remember all of our lifetime !

7. In may the band will be on the "5 Days Of Darkness Tour", how stoked are you to play the shows? What songs will you definitely play and can we expect more shows / tours this year?

We're looking forward to play our first tour this year with our new album in our package.
I mean people might think "it's just a 5 day tour" but we're very excited about it, to play five shows in a row and to have a good time with bands we share the stage and with the people who will come to these shows.
Well, mostly we will play songs from our new album and some few of the old one. But we will concentrate this tour on our new album definitely.
Yes of course, there will be more shows in Germany this year and we'll hit the stages of some festivals this summer. So keep your eyes on our page for dates, new merchandise and much more!

8. What is your favorite song on "Tomorrow" and do you have a favorite lyrical line?

Oh God, that's hard to figure out one specific song that might be our favorite one! It's like when you got some cars for example: every song has its own character and is hard to compare with the other one, because of the different song styles. But if I had to mention some songs as a recommendation, I would say must listen to "Unknown Enemy", "Prayer For The Pain", "Tomorrow", "Weight Of The World" and even "Fight On". If you don't dig one of these songs then you won't dig the rest of the album, I guess. But please do me a favour and listen to all songs!

Well, in the song "Hungry Again" are some sentences which really hit the bullseye in case of things we're allowed to do and things we should handle with care, but also which we try to ignore because of its danger and its power to lead us astray. I think almost everybody can find a bit of himself in the lyrics of "Hungry Again" so listen to it, read the lyrics and come to the same conclusion as we do. At least at some points of the subject ;)

9. What are your plans for this year exactly?

We're trying to get more live-shows for this year so we hope to get a lot of shows, mostly outside of Germany and we are struggling to get more and even better connections to the business itself. Indeed we are investing a whole lot of time and energy in searching for experienced people and agencies who would like to work with us and to do some steps forward in this kind of business.
Like I said a few minutes before: We want to spread our music as far as possible so we're looking for world wide connections to achieve this.

10. Do you have any shout-outs to give to the readers?

Of course! There's nothing left to say than: Listen to our music and give it a try! Please don't let any prejudgement control you because we are from Germany or just another melodic death band. There's is only one and most important thing with music: just listen to it and let the music directly affect you!

We would like to thank...no we give our deepest props and thanks to our die hard fans who come to our shows and support us in any way since years! Without them we would just be another small band who don't get out of their rehearsal room without any attention from anybody. Furthermore our thanks go out to our supporters of Bleeding Roses Tattoos, Deathrider Liquors and Daesch basses. We're very happy to have you guys out there and for believing in us!
