Q: What was the reason for using the band name "Schoolyards"?

A:  The reason why we called the band schoolyards is that we wanted something new, at the opposite of the seriousness that mainly rules in the metal / hardcore scene. Most of us are kids inside so we wanted to take this name to show that we ll always be the noisy boys of the schoolyard !

Q: How many shows have you played, and which one has been your favorite thus far?

A: The band is only about 1 year old so we have played 5 shows but we are booking 2 shows a month at this moment which is not so bad for a young band. For the moment, the best show for me was at the pub adk, near Paris. We played with Memories of a dead man ( our 2 guitarists also plays in that band ) and the energy was cool. The singer of memories of a dead man also joined us to guest on the song fear which was a highlight !

Q: What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

A: The topics of the lyrics are mainly around the death theme. Last year was the worst year of my life. So i needed to evacuate those negative thoughts from my mind. This band is really a catharsis for me.

Q: What song do you enjoy playing live the most?

A: My favorite song at this moment is fear that is available on our 1st ep.The song is powerful and the end is very intense, especially live.

Q: What artists have influenced your band and its music?

A: The band is influenced by all kind of metal or hardcore artists. Nevertheless, musically, i feel that our band is not so far from bands like Down. Concerning my voice, i would say that it's more hardcore. I am very influenced by bands like killing culture, vision of disorder but also Pantera.

Q: Can you tell the readers about the process of songwriting? Do you write all the music together?

A: The process of writting music in schoolyards is quite traditional. Ben, most of the time, brings guitar riffs, and the band is jamming. Then after few rehersals, i try to find catchy intonations then write the lyrics.

Q: What are your plans for this year exactly?

A: Our plan for 2014 is to continue writting music and play often as possible. We plan to release an album something like next year.
